I am so thankful to have all my children. Philip, especially, teaches us all so much, mostly patience and compassion. He also trains us not to be self-centered. Last week the children were on spring break so we took a drive. This time it was just Philip, Allison, Ben and me. We drove down NJ to Cape May, took a Ferry to Lewes DE and saw the ponies on Assateague Island.

Allison and Ben were helpful, kind and loving with Philip. Road trips are never easy, but when you have to deal with special needs on top of everything it can be really trying. It really made me happy to see their genuine desire to entertain Philip and make sure that this trip was fun for him. They played with him in the hotel pool and enjoyed his smile so much. They loved taking pictures of him in the car and did everything they could to get just the right smile out of him. They really enjoyed Philip’s delight over the ponies and couldn’t wait to tell dad how much he had enjoyed them.

Allison and Ben are the closest in age to Philip. They have some of the most trying times with him, but they are also gaining a wealth of maturity and compassion from caring for him and growing up together with him. All my children are precious.
